Oh, it's habit with me. I automatically do it with any forum, MSN/Windows Messenger, Skype, you name it. I'm also ex-directory and that sort of thing.

I set myself to hidden status on the Democracy Forum for a while, hoping to avoid being attacked so much.
However, it has the disadvantage that personal messages may not be replied to quite so quickly, as the other person does not know if you are online.

Yes, both of those. I don't use Messenger that much but I use Skype quite frequently.

That's true.
For me it is just something I have always done even though it is less relevant on a small forum like this which is more like a group of friends than a gladatorial combat zone.
