Fielding Candidates In The Election

How will UKIP decide where to field candidates in the election? I would really like to vote for them and I so wish I lived back in Buckingham where Nigel Farage is standing against that ghastly Bercow. I'd volunteer to deliver leaflets and put up posters or whatever like a shot.

This morning we woke up to find that the large elder tree in the back garden had broken off at the top. The top bit, smothered in ivy, had half fallen onto the shed roof. We knew there was more wind to come so we rushed out and hacked it away from the main trunk (in our nightclothes - sorry neighbours) and put it onto the lawn where it could do no more damage.
We really could have done without that!
The storm is still raging and we are worrying about the fence and the chimney pots!

Intelligence Squared debate on the Catholic Church

I was wondering if anyone had watched the Intelligence Squared debate on the Catholic Church, specifically "The Catholic Church is a Force for Good in the World".

The link above is a YouTube playlist, just click play-all if you want to watch it.

I thought the debate was very good, a shame the Catholic contingent didn't seek to make their points more forcefully or to address the issues raised by Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry instead of simply dismissing them as the usual arguments. Clearly the arguments were resonant with many of the people in the room.

Yipee, Lord Pearson is the new UKIP leader. I've always liked him since he mooted Geert Wilder's visit. However, he seems to have trodden on a few toes with his behind-the-scenes approach to the Tories. We'll disband if you promise a referendum.Sounds very noble but surely he would have realised it would cause trouble?

Treatment of guests on Question Time.

I have been quite shocked recently at the treatment of guests on Question Time. I know that the appearance of Nick Griffin was very controversial but after all this is supposed to be a democracy and anyone should have a voice.Dimbleby was very bullying towards him and he scarcely got a word in edgeways.Nigel Farage was on a week or so before NG I think and he was actually called a racist by a member of the audience which was ridiculous. I thought that the panel was pretty unpleasant to him . Last week they had Kilroy Silk on who was treated in much the same way.
What is going on? How come some people are picked out by the establishment for bullying even though everything is so pc and "feelings" seem to be of paramount importance.Talk about witch hunts. It scares me!

Glasgow By Election

Labour is claiming a great victory in winning the Glasgow by election with a majority of 800 votes. What does this actually mean though? Could it be that the Labour vote has benefitted from the treatment (possibly unfair) of Martin ex Speaker of the Commons, the previous MP for Glasgow? There was an extremely low turn out of only about 33%,maybe due to the weather or to celebrations going on in the city - so would the SNP have done better if more voters had come out? The BNP had never fought an election in Scotland yet they came 4th behind the Tories who had only polled about 60 more votes than the BNP and the Lib Dems were beaten into 5th place.
Wonder what Alex Salmond is thinking and can Brown really believe that this is the beginning of a Labour renaissance?
